You may have noticed my interstitial ads
by Sapphire (February 17, 2006)
I’m using AdBrite’s Intermission ads on this site. You don’t see them on your first visit, and you only see it once per day, so it’s not as annoying as some. And I figured one of us needed to take the plunge and give them a try, then review it for the whole class.
It’s been a week so far, and here’s what I’m seeing:
• An inexplicable increase in unique visitors, considering how little I’ve been posting (though, if AdBrite’s analytics are right, maybe it’s all from India???). And it may have nothing to do with the ad.
• It’s lowering my average cost per click with AdBrite, though I’m not quite sure if that’s a bad thing. (You think maybe I need to do more research?)
• I’ve made 9 cents, but the amount I make per day seems to be increasing. From, like, 1 cent to 2.
Conclusion? Since it doesn’t seem to be hurting traffic, I’m going to leave it on there for a bit, just out of curiosity, to see if it picks up. But I’m not impressed, when I consider that the minimum click through on an AdBrite text ad is 8 cents. Get one of those per week, and you’re doing as well as this thing does.
I’m kind of thinking it could be a very good thing on a bigger blog/site, but I’m not sure. Some sites do poorly with ads because the viewers aren’t interested enough in their content, while others underperform because people are too interested in the content to look at the ads.
Still. I’m going to leave this thing up at least another week, and let you guys know what I think. I’d love to hear your thoughts as well. How annoying or confusing is it? Empress already commented that she thought my site had been hijacked. Is it that bad? I do find it a bit annoying, but I’m more impatient about ads than most people evidently are. •
