WTF is this “interesting post” trackback spam?
by Sapphire (November 5, 2007)
I’m getting trackback spam on all my blogs lately, despite having SK2 and at least one trackback spam plugin on every install. They all go something like this:
“Sapphire wrote an interesting post today, here’s a snippet” and proceed to scrape some content. They are actually linking to you, which might be why the plugins aren’t picking it up. But it’s just scrapers, and I can’t figure out how to nuke them from orbit prevent them from getting onto the site in the first place.
Anyone know anything about this, or have any tricks up your sleeves? Just wait - 15 minutes after I post this, there will be a comment saying “Sapphire wrote an interesting post today, here is a snippet I’m getting trackback spam on all my blogs lately, despite having…”

I was getting a lot of those but they seem to have slowed down. I go through and delete their link back via the trackback ping and tell SK that those “comments” (trackbacks) are spam. It doesn’t seem to happen any more. I don’t know if I did something that helped (I added a few of their urls to my blacklist) or if they just got tired…

That’s good thinking. I also go into SK to tell it they’re spam (rather than just deleting them via the Wordpress admin). I don’t know if that helps, but I read somewhere it’s supposed to.
But I didn’t put their domains in the blacklist. I’ll definitely try that. Thanks!

I use Akismet but I’m sure it’s the same with SK2.. if you keep telling it that it’s spam, eventually it learns that certain ips produce trackback spam

I hope so, BDM! They do seem to be slowing down lately, so maybe it is learning.
