When to raise TLA prices?

by Sapphire (April 3, 2007)

When is the right time to ask to raise your prices, and by how much? I have two sites that have sold 7 of their 8 spots (this is one of them), but I’m not sure whether that means the price is just right, or that I could get more.

My Alexa ranking are slowly falling across the board (not that Alexa’s more accurate than a gopher with an abacus, but people use it to evaluate site popularity). My pagerank has been 4 for a while now (through at least one Google Dance). There are a lot more pages than there were a while back, obviously, but I’m not sure that makes much difference.

What do you think?

I’ve never raised mine. I’d wait till it’s 8/8 before inquiring.

Higher prices mean more money if you don’t scare the buyers away.

I’ve only requested a raise to my TLA ads once - when my site went up to a PR5 and when I scoped out other PR5 sites they were asking for WAY more money than I was (which was $15). So I asked them with everything going up on this site (PR and that Alexa rank) could they increase my TLA purchase price accordingly. They did that day. Since then I’ve noticed my site has increased - without me asking. So I’m not sure what’s a good deal or not. Since the increase I’ve kept my links - but I’ve also not got any new ones for the site.

I was thinking I might be getting to expensive. It’s a delicate balance - but I’d check out what others are making there in your niche and decide. Or be like 45n5 and wait until it’s filled.

I do think Mark’s “wait until 8″ policy makes sense. I mean, clearly, if you’re selling them all, surely it’s time for a LITTLE increase. Maybe even wait until 8 are staying sold consistently.

My prices as set were pretty decent, I think - $30 for the top spots on this one, with a range of $20-30 on all my others. I have no idea where they get the numbers. Must be a combination of PR, niche value, etc.

$15 does sound low for you, though. I think you were probably right to ask for an increase. For a long time, I couldn’t get more than two buyers in a month - it may be that even at the lower price, you wouldn’t have anymore than you have now. But you will!
