Was there a Google PR update and I missed it?

I noticed today that Google is counting fewer backlinks to a couple of my sites than they have been, so I checked to make sure the PR was still the same. It was. Then I went around to forums, trying to discover if there’d been a PR update. Some said there was one in June, some said there was one last week. That’s when I quit reading. My traffic keeps increasing on all my domains. Sometimes it’s Google, sometimes it’s Yahoo or MSN. But most of my sites seem to get some love from one engine or another, and the results are exactly in line with the amount of effort I’ve put in, doing this only part-time.

This got me wondering: is there any reason why I should keep checking my PR? If the traffic’s coming in and continually growing, things are good. I can’t see where PR is important, except in selling direct text link ads. It’s really nothing to do with affiliate marketing, for example.

The less attention I pay to Google, the better my results, I think. On my “B-2 Bomber” blog, I was trying to post at least once a day, even if all I had to post was total crap, in hopes of getting my Google rankings up. They plateaued and stopped growing. Then I gave that up, and decided to post only when I had something to say, and suddenly the results are improving again. What was good for the visitors actually worked for Google results.

Maybe Google’s just getting better. I don’t know. But I think I’ll keep right on not paying attention.
