Turning off Do-follow on Project B 2 Bomber
by Sapphire (July 21, 2007)
I have Do-follow on several of my blogs, so that if you leave comments, you get real link juice back to your URL. I’m leaving it on for this site and ChillyCool, as long as the situation remains tolerable.
I added Do-follow because I think no-follow is pointless and serves Google’s desires rather than my visitors’ needs. Unfortunately Project B-2 Bomber is getting overrun with people leaving human but half-assed comments to promote their sites. The comments are obviously in response to a quick scan of the article, but they are shallow and off-topic. Their sites are for sex toys and other marginal stuff. (Which I personally have nothing at all against, but my site is intended to be family friendly.)
I suspect these people are targeting the site because of Do-follow. I can either sit there all day long deleting their crud, or turn off Do-follow and see if that makes them go away.
I detest it when someone creates a problem, creates a fix for the problem that actually creates a whole other set of problems, then penalizes me whichever way I go. Yeah, Google, I’m looking your way.
