To AdSense or not to AdSense

by Sapphire (September 30, 2006)

Every time I hear someone’s making great money on AdSense, I get bummed.

See, I don’t like AdSense.  It just turns me off because it has, inadvertently or otherwise, inspired a lot of horrific crap sites that drive me crazy when I’m looking up information.  The truth is, WikiPedia with all its flaws is a better information source than Google now, and that’s largely thanks to the AdSense explosion in alleged content sites.  It also turns me off because I see it everywhere and am sick of it, but I can sideline that concern (I guess other people aren’t so bothered - they seem to keep clicking).  And finally, it turns me off because PPC is such a circle-jerk, and I do believe in click-fraud.

My ultimate problem is this: I’m pretty sure I can’t make serious money on AdSense unless I build dozens of crap content sites, and I don’t want to clog the net with yet another site about insurance.  I don’t want to spend my time on that.  I’d rather spend my time on affiliate marketing sites, because I still think that’s where the big money is.  There, and selling ad space - which is somehow different to me than PPC, maybe just because of the fraud issue.  Selling adspace is something that’s gone on since newspapers began, and it just feels logical to me.  I don’t know how to make $10k/month on ad space, but that may just be a traffic issue.

I do so need to get my traffic boosted on all my sites.
