TextLinkAds goal AdBrite answer

by Sapphire (December 11, 2006)

I’ve crossed the $100 threshold for TextLink ads monthly earnings.  I’m sure a lot of people are doing much better than that, but a few months ago I was lucky to get $30.  I’m hoping to increase that to $300 within 6 months.  I have no idea how: I’m not sure if I need more sites, more traffic to existing sites, or both.  But here’s to setting random goals with absolutely no practical sense of how to reach them!  It’s just crazy enough to work. ;)

AdBrite answered my question about whether I need to kill recurring ads in order to get people paying my current rates.  Yes, when they choose to be “recurring”, you get the benefit of a regular ad purchase, but they get the benefit of locking into your old prices.  To change this, you have to change their “recurring” status and hope they re-purchase.  So far, I’ve changed status only on a couple of advertisers who were paying less than 75% of my current rates.  A new advertiser has bought space at the new rate - on a recurring basis - so my slots are all still full on this site, and bringing in a little more than they brought in last month.

And in my post about not refunding payments when people buy featured links to sites clearly prohibited by one of my directory’s rules, I forgot to mention that I supply an email address so they can send the site to me and make sure it’s acceptable before wasting their money.  I should also clarify that just because you make a policy doesn’t mean you necessarily enforce it in every instance.  ;)  It really is just intended to scare them into not wasting my time.  So far, it’s working.
