MaxBlogPress writes some great plugins. I use Different Posts Per Page to control how many posts my visitors see on various types of pages (10 for archives, 4 or 5 for home page, etc.). I use the Ping Optimizer because to this day no one at WordPress will confirm whether or not future posts ping when they go live, or when you write them, and that plugin seems to take ...

I got inspired by Eric23′s version of edit-form-advanced.php, which put the categories back into the sidebar in WordPress 2.5. I played with the code further, and managed to get the tags over there as well, which is something I always wanted. I made a modified version of it, which I was happy with until I saw Jabecker’s version, which put even more stuff in the sidebar.
