The continuing saga of Project Mai Tai

Monday, January 22nd, 2007 Google still refuses to index Project Mai Tai. Oh, somehow, I got one search via GoogleUK or something, but the site is not in the “google.com” index at all. But it’s got a PR 4. So, yeah, that makes sense. There’s been another slight change. All along, Google Webmaster Tools has been reporting huge numbers of pages that it couldn’t find. When I checked their URL’s I had ... READ MORE

Spammer IP List

Saturday, December 16th, 2006 I noticed this month that Project Mai Tai got more referral link spam – mostly porn – than any site I’ve ever started.  By referral link spam, I mean those sites that show up in your AwStats as having referred one visitor to you – and when you click to see who they are, it’s something obviously spammy like porn or a pharmacy site.  I don’t know for sure that ... Why would Google ignore Project Mai Tai?

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006 Okay, I’m wondering if any of you might have some ideas on this.  My newest site, Project Mai Tai, was indexed by Yahoo and MSN within days of its launch three months ago.  Google has yet to index one page, even though the bots come by every day.  I did forget to include my robots.txt file until yesterday, but the verdict from other webbies is that this is not what ... Robots.txt file

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006 I’m an idiot. Google continues not to index my relatively new site, Project Mai Tai. Possible reason? I forgot to create a robots.txt file for it! D’oh! I’ve heard Google will bounce a site for not having that. If that’s what’s been keeping me out, I’m happy to say the Google bots come along frequently, so with any luck they’ll index the site soon. In the meantime, ... READ MORE

Update: Mai Tai, Taffy & More

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006 Project Mai Tai is still being ignored completely by Google.  But it just got a new sidebar link from a Blogger blog that’s not run by anyone I know.  So is it sticky?  Well, a handful of people seem to think so, which means maybe if enough people saw it, it would start to build links.  So, as always in this game, the question is: how to get it in ... Mai Tai gets an MSN search!

Saturday, October 28th, 2006 My Project Mai Tai is now the proud owner of the #12 spot on MSN’s live search for a search term that we’re projecting over 3 people will search in the next decade! To celebrate this momentous milestone, I smiled briefly. I considered putting my fist into the air and saying, “Yes!” but I decided to save that sort of partying for whenever Google finally notices the site ... READ MORE

Update

Thursday, October 26th, 2006 Time for a general update/assessment. Project Mai Tai is still out with Google, in with Yahoo and MSN LiveSearch.  Not that it’s actually had any search traffic.  But the bookmark rate is up, and Alexa puts it in the 300,000′s.  Which, considering I have older and better sites doing worse is… um, whatever.    The point is, it still has only two organic links from other sites, which I guess ... Project Mai Tai still limping along

Thursday, October 19th, 2006 Project Mai Tai has had over 600 visitors so far during its first full month, but that’s mostly coming from traffic exchanges (and social bookmarking, and three inbound links). Not great results yet, but again: the goal is not to launch this thing into the stratosphere 48 hours after the first post, but rather to learn how to launch sites quickly and effectively. I’m trying one thing at ... READ MORE
