StumbleUpon boosting B-2 Bomber

by Sapphire (January 26, 2007)

This month, StumbleUpon decided to send over 400 visitors to my site that I call Project B-2 Bomber.  I have no idea why, since I can’t really figure out how StumbleUpon decides what URL’s to give you, but I have to say this is way better than any social bookmarking site I’ve gotten results from.

StumbleUpon is a lot like a social bookmark site, in that you can add sites to it and write reviews of them, but mainly you just browse through sites people have marked and see what’s cooking.  It’s actually a lot of fun and a great resource if you need ideas to blog about.  But why my site has suddenly gone from a few pageviews a month to several hundred, I’m not sure.  It still only has one person who “liked” it.

It would be nice to understand what caused this, so I could replicate it.  But I’ll take it all the same.

    Hi Sapphire,

I wish I got carpet bombed by stumble upon. We could all use more traffic, but in the end if you don’t have a reason for them to stay, they won’t.

Don’t you think it would be better to capture traffic then to always hope for another Digg or Stumble bombing?

My first goal for traffic is to have a reason for them to stay, I really don’t want to waste good traffic if I don’t have to. I always ask that you add my RSS feed at the bottom or every blog. You would be shocked to know my unique to return traffic ratio. :)

Well, my bookmark rate for that site is getting higher and higher, so I am capturing traffic because my site does have a reason for traffic to stay: excellent content.

Had you or someone else just recently added your site to Stumbleupon? I did this on my other half’s site and the visitors from SU came in floods initially. I can only assume that a new site gets that little extra exposure at first and then settles into the crowd.

Still good news on all the visitors.

No, it was added a long time ago and got no attention. Then suddenly it got a huge burst, and now it’s stopped again. There’s no change to the page when I look up my site at SU in terms of the people who “like” it and the lack of reviews.
