Stuff I’ve been doing

by Sapphire (June 28, 2007)

It’s been a productive week.

I changed all my blog email subscriptions from FeedBurner to FeedBlitz (which is also provided through FeedBurner). They just look nicer, have more options for your readers, etc.

I finally sold a BlogAds ad on B-2 Bomber. I think that’s the ideal network for that site, since the site’s focus is on a social issue and BlogAds has great advertisers for every philosophical, political or social niche. I’m selling them at the very cheapest BlogAds allows right now - $10 for a week. But it’s a start. I’m also trying to recruit some free advertisers so it’ll always look like I’ve got spaces sold.

I’ve been posting like crazy, moderating some heated discussion on B-2, not all of which came from the commenters. I think I should write an ebook on managing a multi-author site - and on how to apologize when you accidentally offend someone half to death saying something the wrong way. Oy.

I’ve been working hard on my behind the scenes organization, too. Refining my GTD stuff, switching from Bloglines to Google Reader (it’s faster, I can load it into Gmail using the Better Gmail plugin from those ever-helpful folks at LifeHacker, and I have more options on how to display the posts), and using an RSI program that reminds me to take breaks not only to spare my wrists repetitive motion injury, but to give my brain a rest. I really think those micro-breaks are making me more creative.

I continue to be impressed by my CrispAds earnings and utterly disgusted by my BurstMedia ones. 2 cents from Burst, running in rotation on two sites, each with 4-5000 visitors a month. I mean, am I missing something? Meanwhile, CrispAds is running in rotation on those two sites plus a third that doesn’t get great traffic (but is in a great niche) and it’s earned… okay, $1.51. But compared to Burst, that’s fantastic. And with CrispAds I can sell spots, which is always the more lucrative solution in my experience.
