Spam Attack!

Last night, one of my sites got suspended. It was the only one on a particular reseller account, so I freaked (I couldn’t unsuspend it, either). The reason in Cpanel was “spam violations”, which really freaked me out since I don’t spam, and that had to mean someone had somehow accessed the domain to send spam. So I wrote the host (NitroZone).

This was around 11:3o pm, Pacific time. They responded by 11:40 and explained that my site had been the victim of email attacks, and asked me to check a couple of settings. By the time I finished, they’d restored the site. I also enabled all the spam assassin and filters and stuff in Cpanel, which I should probably do on all my sites (only I don’t really know what this stuff does, and tend to avoid messing with stuff I don’t understand).

It’s nice to have something that “eeek!” resolved in just a few minutes. The quick response from Nitrozone deserves a big kudos. Now if I can just figure out what an email attack is, precisely, and how to prevent them.
