Slow load time on homepage only?

by Sapphire (February 27, 2007)

B-2 Bomber’s home page is loading really slowly lately.  None of the other pages are borking up, just that one. I looked for differences between it and the others - there aren’t any between it and, say, the category pages which use the main WordPress template, too.  I’ve gone nuts for two days now trying to figure out what the problem is.  Suddenly we’re getting a lot of new traffic… suddenly, the site’s not loading.

Then I noticed that “http://mydomain.com/index.php” loads just fine.  It’s only when you put “http://mydomain.com” in the URL window that it takes three hours to load.  Suddenly, I began to suspect a domain issue.

Sure enough, I went to my NameCheap control panel today and noticed something: the nameservers have been swapped around.  It’s the right ones, only the “ns2…” comes ahead of “ns2…”  I’m not sure this could make a difference, but my other sites on the same server have the nameservers in the right order, and they’re all loading nicely.  It does seem logical to me that if the only actual problem is loading the domain itself straight up, maybe the nameservers could be an issue.  We’ll find out if NameCheap takes care of it for me.  Did I mention that whenever I try to change it, their system swears I have, but then cheerfully pops up the same wrong order it had before?

NameCheap used to be so perfectly awesome.  Lately, I’ve noticed the cpanel changing things whimsically on its own.  This had better be temporary glitches.
