Sidebar linking experiment
Project MaiTai still isn’t getting indexed by Google. MSN and Yahoo have each deigned to recognize a page or two from it, but Google’s playing hard to get. I’ve decided to give it a sidebar link from one of my well-indexed, fairly high pagerank sites, and see what that does. I have no idea if it’ll help or not. I don’t know what it takes to get Google attention these days.
It’s been so long since I started a new site, I honestly can’t remember how long it used to take to get indexed. It seems like this is taking a while to me, but maybe it’s normal. I don’t remember.
If this doesn’t do any good, then in a week I may submit it to some more directories. I’m not wild about having a lot of directory inbounds to start with: I thought they tended to make Google hold off a little. But since this one’s not taking off with Google, maybe I’m wrong.
And so far, I’ve received no search traffic at all. It’s indexed, but it isn’t ranking for anything anyone’s searching for in Yahoo or MSN. Oh, and Ask.com has indexed it, too, but still no search traffic.
But you know what? I know there are a lot of instant success stories online, and some of them are true. But how often do you stumble onto something really awesome overnight? There’s nothing wrong with a slow start.
And with this project, I really want to give each change I make a few days to show results before I try another one. My goal is to find the most efficient set of steps involved in launching a website to the point where it has decent traffic and a potential for revenue.
