Replacement for CustomQueryString Plugin

Okay, yeah, I’m going to plug MaxBlogPress one more time, because he just solved another issue for me.

When I upgraded to Wordpress 2.3, the CustomQueryString plugin bit the dust, and there didn’t appear to be any updates, which meant now my archive pages had to have the same number of posts as my homepage. As detailed in the linked post, I very much prefer to have 3-5 full posts on the home page of a site, then give people 10+ excerpts on the category, archive and search pages to skim through as they look for something specific.

MaxBlogPress has a plugin called Different Posts per Page which does just what I needed, and it’s much simpler to understand and use – you just go to the admin page and tell it how many posts to stick on the home page, a category page, an archive page, a search page, etc.

In the interests of disclosure, yes, the link to the plugin is an affiliate link. Yes, I would have blogged about it anyway because I think it’s really made a difference. Yes, the plugin is free (I only get paid if you buy another product from him).
