Re-thinking my time
by Sapphire (August 3, 2006)
I’ve decided to stop building affiliate sites full of complicated product links that take tons of time to maintain, and really don’t yield anymore income than far simpler ones I’ve got. That way, I’ll have more time to build more sites and enhance the ones I’ve got. And link build, link build, link build.

I’m feeling pretty rejuvenated by this. The amount of work these sites take is just a little depressing, whereas the one site I’ve built as my “test pilot” for my new method was lots of fun, and has already generated a couple of sales. I’m already thinking of ways I can make my affiliate sites more original and distinctive (with all that time left over).
And I’ve got a few ideas on how to use my already-existing domains to build more affiliate pages. Not only will that save me the expense of additional domains and hosting, but also the time spent building pagerank and inbound-linkage to each individual domain. Why start from scratch with new sites, when I can build up what I have?
Why shouldn’t this stuff be simple? From now on, I’m assuming it should be, and when it’s not, I’m reconsidering my methods and what I’ve been thinking is necessary. The further I get into this work, the more I can separate what’s truly important from what just seems that way. When you think about it, the bare minimum you need to make money from an affiliate site is a link, posted somewhere people can access it. I’ve been making it so much more complicated than was really necessary. From now on, I’m starting with the simplest equation, and gradually adding on tasks and complications, instead of starting with a long-range dream, and making myself crazy trying to get the site to become what I see in my head.
