Re-thinking my priorities
by Sapphire (August 6, 2007)
I did some assessing this weekend, and here’s what I came up with.
Project Mai Tai has some real potential. So does B-2 Bomber. So, I suspect, does this other project I’ve not even started on, but been wanting to for a while, which I’m going to call Project Sunshine. Also, I’m in talks with a friend to co-author a book which we will probably self-publish, and another book which may be an ebook. And there was that Project 2168 I was going to do, but it relied heavily on paid links, and Google kind of took the wind right out of that.
This site and ChillyCool are definitely on a plateau, and that’s not likely to change. Because even if I had more expertise to offer on the topics of affiliate marketing, online earning and SEO, this is a niche of bloggers who for the most part won’t link to you. It’s like people think we’re stuffed in a small room filled with limited pagerank, and we’ve all got to breathe in all the pagerank we can and hold our breaths and glare at each other while we turn blue. There’s no circulation of air.
In short, it’s just getting stale for me. And I’m tired of scouring 100 SEO/aff blogs to find articles for Chilly when hardly anyone ever links back anyway. I could spend that time on far more useful things.
So, what are my new priorities?
Build up Mai Tai and Sunshine. Work on those two book ideas (one of which should not take long to put together). Post here and at Chilly only when I have something worth sharing (that’s already been my policy around here for a while). This could be a tiny link to a great tool, or a big article with great insights, and of course what I consider “worth sharing” you may not. But that’s the amount of effort that site and this one merit right now. I may also work on Project 2168 some, but it bores me. I know I shouldn’t let that stand between me and money, but honestly right now I’d rather be doing stuff that has some sort of creative energy from me. If I wanted to do something uninspired for a living, there are a lot of high-paying jobs I could turn to, and it would probably be easier than this online path.
