Project Mai Tai still limping along
by Sapphire (October 19, 2006)
Project Mai Tai has had over 600 visitors so far during its first full month, but that’s mostly coming from traffic exchanges (and social bookmarking, and three inbound links). Not great results yet, but again: the goal is not to launch this thing into the stratosphere 48 hours after the first post, but rather to learn how to launch sites quickly and effectively. I’m trying one thing at a time, and yeah - a lot of them aren’t working.
I’m going to add a few subfolders onto it. I was considering subdomains, but as far as I can tell, until the site is established and has some PR and organic traffic, there’s no point dividing the content into lots of little domains, all competing against each other in the SERPs. The subfolders will add some categorization that I expect to appeal to visitors, and give me a lot more room to play.
I’m finding the more I work on Mai Tai, the more ideas I get for it. I don’t have a lot of sites that inspire me like that. Most of them leave me thinking, “Now what?” If it’s inspiring me, maybe it’ll inspire visitors, and that’ll turn into cash.
I’ve got a lot of work ahead today. I just thought of a way to incorporate ludicrous amounts of affiliate links into some original content, and see how that goes.
