Pheedo Ad Relevancy
by Sapphire (June 20, 2005)
A while back, I talked about how AdSense wasn’t able to send relevant ads to that niche blog I call “The B-2 Bomber”. They were sort of relevant, but in the sense that putting up ads for Mac software ads on a PC software site would be sort of relevant - it not only wasn’t quite right, it was fairly off-putting. At least to me, when I viewed the site like a visitor.
Pheedo to the rescue:
Now, I have tried CrispAds and AdBrite, and reported on them. In a nutshell, CrispAds wins because even though it doesn’t always give me relevant ads, the ads are pretty good. I recently removed AdBrite from the B-2 Bomber because it kept giving me an ad about “how to hide money from the government or nosey ex-spouses” and the B-2 Bomber’s target audience is female. Bit of a problem, doncha think?
Pheedo, as you can see above, looks a lot like AdSense (and, like AdSense, can be greatly customized). I’ve got it running on three blogs, currently, and in every case it’s delivering quite a few relevant ads, then a few general interest ones. So far, all the ads I’ve seen have been suitable for my visitors, and several of them I’ve wanted to click myself.
But the results it’s giving me on the B-2 Bomber are extraordinary. It immediately picked up one aspect of what the site is about, and is delivering relevant ads to that. It’s perfect - I even like some of the companies in the ads from prior experience. So it looks promising so far.
Now what I really need to do - and probably won’t have time for a few days - is see what else Pheedo offers. I’ve signed up for their BlogSnob network - it’s basically a webring, where you have an ad on your site that promotes other relevant blogs, and they in turn promote yours on their sites. Could be a great way to get some traffic. (I just signed up and am pending approval on two blogs.)
Pheedo’s real specialty is RSS ads - ads placed in your feed. That’s where I really need to take some time and study how it works, and how to get the most out of it. At the moment, all I’ve done is sign up and wait to see if anyone drops by to give me money. Usually not the best way to go about selling ads. ![]()
