Optimize your Adsense Ads

Color Blend your Adsense Ads

Everyone knows the adsense blending basics: match the background of your ads to your site’s background, make it borderless, etc. There are however, more useful ways to blend your ads into your content.

Most people go with the idea that the traditional blue links (#0000FF) garner the most clicks. Although they work fairly well in general, it really depends on the colors you use for your theme. BlueMushrooms has never been a fan of adsense, but what if the blog has an inpage advert that looked something like (bg color might be a bit off):

Notice I didn’t go with a blue that stands out, but the blue that this site uses for its links. Now imagine that ad underneath this article’s blue header.

Start using Adlinks

People can spot Google Ads, but adlinks blend in very well. Not only are they less intrusive, they look more like valid links. On my blog, I use two adlinks units, to excellent results. You do have to blend them properly though:

Make sure the adlinks formats match your real link formats. I use one horizontal ad and one down the right sidebar in it’s own widget.

Location, Location, Location

I keep telling webmasters that real estate and internet business have surprising amounts in common. When it’s all said and done, adsense ad locations mean everything.

There is a real struggle here, since putting your ads front and center will make you look like a spammy MFA site and putting all your ads under the fold will make it hard to pay your hosting bill.

There is a good way to find a balance between the two. Make sure you have at lead one adsense and one adlinks unit above the fold, but be sure to make them look clean and professional; Go with a leaderboard ad under your header and a horizontal adlinks under your title to get the best results.
