Musing on stats, feedreaders and stuff

by Sapphire (September 11, 2007)

Project B-2 Bomber has been stuck all this summer around the 15,000 uniques/month mark. But almost every day, the Feedburner stats creep up a few digits. This probably means more of my regular readers are discovering the magic of feedreaders. My bookmark rate is falling at about the rate my Feedburner stats go up, which supports that theory, too.

I’m hopeful those AwStat numbers will increase in the fall. Right now, some of my authors and regular commenters and I are all too busy to write much. Real life jobs, life events, internet downtime… it’s always something. Absolutely not one of us is bored right now. That’s got to change at some point. ;)

I installed an SMF forum on that site. I had a BBpress one on there, but no one liked trying to use it because the user features are very 1996. I refuse to use PHPBB again because I never found a way to stop spambots from registering and sometimes even posting (no, setting it so you have to approve people and guests can’t post doesn’t work in every case). From what I’ve heard SMF is a little more secure (or less popular with spammers and hackers) and it has all the user features and then some. I struggled for the whole weekend learning how to get things working - there’s a funky deal wherein images break in a lot of themes, until you rename the “english” folder in the “images” folder to “english-utf8″. I’m not sure what that’s about - maybe it’s a way of making it easier for non-English speaking themers? Whatever. I’m pleased with the final product, though.
