More on Blogkits/Overstock deal

A few days ago, I signed up for the BlogKits/Overture partnership that allows bloggers to put Overstock “Support This Blog” banners on their sites (look to your right). I think it’s a good looking banner, personally. Due to the layout differences, I stuck one like this on my other blog:

Save at Overstock.com!

And we should get to see how they perform in direct competition.

But it’ll take time to get the results. You don’t have daily statistics - they send them to you in periodic emails. That really doesn’t bother me - I tend to get stuck in a loop checking my stats repeatedly anyway, which can’t be good for my mental health.

In my opinion, the banners are very classy, fast-loading and not offensive or annoying to me as a visitor. If you guys have a different opinion, leave a comment - I’d love to hear about it. I don’t know how they perform on slow connections, for example, nor how they may strike other people’s taste.

I also like that they say flat-out “Support this Blog”. No polite demurring. No attempt to disguise the reason why the ad is there. I think people prefer that sort of honesty to ads that pretend to be something else. I know I do.

And it’s Overstock, a very good site to be associated with. If they continue to churn out smart ideas like this, I think they’ll overtake Amazon, whose associate program I find rather frustrating.

You should be aware that BlogKits requires you to submit a W-9 for U.S. taxes.
