I’m not going to blog about Google anymore
by Sapphire (October 29, 2007)
Once I got done reading about the sites that lost pagerank because of link selling, I started taking a look around and noticing the ones that didn’t lose pagerank, or even gained pagerank, despite prominently selling links.
That’s all I’m going to say on that - you can look around for yourself and notice that Google is just full of shit. They have every right to be. I don’t even know why they bother couching their intentions in phoney-baloney morality. They want to make money. So they invent “freebies” that collect incredibly valuable info on websites - but your grocery store does the same thing when they refuse you discounts unless you buy a card and fill out your info so everytime you scan it they know what you bought. Love it or hate it, this is just a fact of life. What can I do about it?
Stop feeding the monster. I’m done blogging about Google’s latest drama. We report their latest pronouncements from on high, then we debate What Could It Mean?! until the next pronouncement. No one ever goes back and notices, “Oh, huh. That really didn’t affect my sites much.”
I’m regretting right now that when Google announced a few months ago that paid links were teh debil, I put off a plan I’d just hatched. Now I know that plan would’ve worked fine, and I was an idiot to “hold off until I see what this latest from Google does to my sites.” It did nothing.
The only way Google is affecting my sites is by distracting me from my gameplan with their scare tactics. It’s great publicity for them, and we help it right along. From now on, when I feel like writing about it, I’m going to go work on something that benefits me instead.
