Huge CJ commish
by Sapphire (August 29, 2006)
Damn. I just got a huge commission with CJ for a sale. Keep in mind there’s always a chance this sale will get canceled before I see a penny of it - or, apparently, I could get paid and then have CJ bill me if it gets canceled later. Rules like that are the reason I was planning to dump CJ by years’ end.
But should I? Has anyone yet complained of being asked to reimburse old sales that mysteriously, supposedly got returned or canceled? With all the good, sweet time CJ gives merchants to lock in sales (some of mine have taken well over a month), it seems the merchants have plenty of opportunity to make sure sales are legit before they pay out. Did CJ really just put that ridiculous clause in to scare unethical affiliates who are pulling stunts that might involve canceled sales? Maybe I have nothing to worry about.
The other reason I was quitting CJ was their plan to stop using HTML links, and now they’ve decided against that. So do I stick with them? The merchant I got this sale from is one that none of ShareASale’s merchants can compete with - though, for the most part, I do find ShareASale’s merchants highly competitive for the products I’m offering.
My only concern with CJ is that every year, they come up with a whole new set of rules by which they can ream us… and they have, according to some people who have credibility with me, done some shady stuff in the past. I think it’s worth the risk and hassle for now, as long as I keep building with ShareASale and others, so I always have more than one egg in the basket.
