Got me a commission, woohoo!
by Sapphire (July 30, 2005)
Took me long enough, but one of my aff sites finally made a sale, resulting in a commission of about $20. Considering it gets about 50 visitors a month, I’m pleased! This was a site I was about to give up on, because it turns out it’s a much more competitive market than I realized. For a very long time, the site just sort of sat there, being ignored by the engines, by directories I submitted it to, etc.
Then somehow it got a PR 2 on the last update, and the engines started indexing pages, and voila. I’m far from the top, but at least now I can see it has some potential.
My other aff site - which sells much higher ticket items - has yet to make a sale, but it seems to get bookmarked by people, probably for continued comparision shopping. It had a record amount of traffic this month, but it’s probably still about .3% of what I need to get some decent sales rolling in. Still… I had my doubts that simple aff sites - just well-arranged pages of item after item for sale - could even make it anymore. So many worries about duplicate content and all that.
I really do think that if you build a site that has value, even an aff site, the engines will respond sooner or later.
