Google Sandbox – does the new patent lay it all out?

There’s a fascinating discussion going on at SEW – it’s a bit of a dense read, if you’re don’t have a doctorate in SEO but well worth plowing through. Plenty of the posters break down what they’re reading to make it clearer.

Does New Google Patent Validate Sandbox Theory?

Basically, we’re talking about the concept that Google “sandboxes” new sites. What may webmasters have noticed is:

the “boost” new sites normally receive after initially getting indexed. You do well for awhile, and then you crash later. There is for a “lag” on scoring for this it seems.

That’s not all the patent hints at, though. It looks like the patent allows for aggregating data from things like the Google toolbar to learn more about user response to sites:

Search engine 125 may obtain this data either directly (e.g., via a browser assistant) or indirectly (e.g., via a browser). Search engine 125 may then analyze over time a number of bookmarks/favorites to which a document is associated to determine the importance of the document.
