GoDaddy sucks more than I thought

by Sapphire (April 5, 2006)

Remember the domain I tried to transfer from GoDaddy, only they set up an impossible scenario in which I couldn’t possibly set everything properly to make the transfer, and was forced to renew the domain with GoDaddy, or lose it?

Now that their 60-day squatting period is over, I’m trying once again to transfer it. Everything is properly set up and it’s supposedly pending, except… it’s not happening. When I go to their control panel, it says they need a confirmation email I’ve already sent, and that the domain is being “updated” and can’t be modified. When I go to my Namecheap control panel, it just says the transfer has been initiated and nothing’s wrong so far.

At this point, the domain isn’t doing so well anyway. I may just let it go. But be forewarned: GoDaddy means “godfather”. They’re like the domain mob or something.

I know I’ve had problems in the past, not with GoDaddy… but I’m sharing :P When I wanted to transfer domain names from Registerfly to Namecheap I had problems too - no problem on the end of NameCheap and Registerfly had said that it had sent the confirmation - but I never got anything. Then after digging around/asking both support at each place - I realized that I had to take the domain name protect off for the DNS - if you have listed your domains with your domain info protected to be anonymous - take that off. Try again and it will work :)

    Anyhoo… hope that helps!

There’s more detail on all this in the original article (linked to above), but in a nutshell: the domain locking was the problem last time, because it had an expired email address for me, and their bizarre requirements left me with no way to change it. So I was able to take it off, and the domain has not had privacy for two months.

This time, when I first initiated the transfer, I got a notice that the domain was locked, so I unlocked it and re-initiated. Now everything is just hung up in limbo somewhere, and of course, GoDaddy doesn’t have a 1-800 number, and the last time I called, I held a very long time.

GoDaddy emailed me a couple of days ago, then yesterday the transfer went through. :) Of course, they still have what they charged me to renew that domain when they were holding it hostage, which is why I remain unimpressed.

I agree with you 100% they have given me nothing but greif and bad hosting.
Fist i paid for a 2 year domain name and only got a 3 month one.
Then they billed me 4 times for the same hosting account and only willing to refund 3 out of 4.
They messed up my host setting, i keeps getting this error message: [Host misconfiguration] please contact the admin…
and he never fixed it saying it’s my fault buy a better script!

And after 3 weeks yelling at him he finaly said ok its fixed then it poped up as [Expired holding page] WTFH?? I WANT MY MONEY BACK, my site was only online for 5 months total out of a year.
And to top it all no refund for the 36 months paid on the Premium Plan and not one dime back!
I had to refund over 124 members there money for there paid accounts i was SOOOOOOOOOOO MFPO!!

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THESE THIEFS!
