GoDaddy refund

A representative from GoDaddy contacted me privately after my latest article on my troubled domain transfer. Since then, my domain has been transferred, and my PayPal account credited with the amount of the last renewal I was forced to order, or risk losing the domain.

While that doesn’t help customers who don’t have a blog on which to air threir troubles with online vendors, the representative has asked for any information I can give that might help her research what went wrong, so perhaps she’ll be able to do something that leads to improvement.

… at least they’re being pro-active about helping you out. But I wonder how many others are out there having the same problems you did? (like you said, not everyone has a blog to talk about it).

I’m glad it got resolved for you!

Wow, Good to see they respond when you take your troubles “public.” Interesting how either word travels or the godaddy reps google their own name in the blogosphere.

Might prompt me to list a few of my rants on my blog.

    Good work.

    Erik

I’ve had the same problem with GoDaddy.com, after I corrected the telephone number on my registration info (as required by ICANN): they denied my transfer, even though the registrant (me!) hadn’t changed. Their claim was *any* change to contact info (even corrections) would prevent transfers for 60 days. I advised them that ICANN policy prohibited the denial of transfer, except in specific instances… and even wrote the office of Godaddy’s president (president@godaddy.com). They came around after initially claiming they wouldn’t let me transfer. I suggested they put a big friggin’ notice before someone is able to change their registration contacts that they would be transfer-blocked for two months.

Now I have four more domains I’m trying to transfer away, which I unlocked in preparation– and GoDaddy just emailed me denials with a claim I had sent an “express written objection” to the transfers. Um, no: I sent an express written consent with my new registrar. Suffice to say that I’m telling everyone to avoid GoDaddy.

That was part of the issue with my domain. I had to update the email address in order to get the transfer confirmation notice, which was virtually impossible because of the requirements they have for security (which should have been overridden in my case), and then the 60 day denial of transfer kicked in.

    Good luck.

I am trying to transfer my site and they are giving me the run around. I changed an e-mail address over 2 years ago and now they tell me I was supposed to have also changed it with their other company Domains by Proxy and since I didn’t I now have to send my driver’s license to get access to their site. I told them they could have prevented all the problem if, when I went to change the e-mail address in the first place, a box had popped up saying “you have privacy on this domain, please change e-mail address with them also”. They don’t do it because they know they can hold you up for the 60 days once you do get in and change it. Godaddy is the worst for customer service and treating customers with respect.
