Goal assessment, and my new focus on affiliate sites

by Sapphire (April 24, 2006)

This has been a big week for assessing my goals, both online and off. And cool enough, a lot of things have started coming together in my head. In order to clear the way for new business, I’ve been taking care of a lot of basic maintenance recently, and all that rote work has somehow got the creative juices flowing. Here’s what’s suddenly making sense to me.

The Danforth Diamond website stands out because it was built with the customer in mind. They feature diamond engagement rings and wedding jewelry 40% below retail prices. They also have a 30-day return policy and free FedEx shipping. Their extensive learning center goes beyond explaining the four C’s of diamond buying and provides a glossary of jewelry terms and metal information. Most of your questions can be answered on the web through the learning center but the personal support from the call in center is also fantastic.
Buying diamond jewelry has never been easier.

Overall, I’ve still spent more on this stuff than I’ve got coming in. But if you split it by year, then I was in the red in both 2004 and 2005, but so far in 2006 I’m only 12 cents in the red. :D That gave me a bit of a boost, and I got to thinking how I can get solidly profitable this year - even $1,000/month would make a real difference in my life right now.

I realized that adspace and PPC just aren’t going to be bringing in that kind of money for a while yet. I’m still committed to the longterm with those, so I’ll keep doing what I’ve been doing - posting regularly and following up on any bright ideas I get for generating inbound links. In a few years, I think that minimal effort will actually pay off. But in the meantime, I need more.

However I look at things, affiliate marketing is still the most profitable venture. I’m mostly just dealing with ShareASale right now, because they’re the only ones I’ve found that really give me everything I’m looking for and treat me right. So I’m going to start building up my current aff sites that mainly use ShareASale. I’m also thinking about starting some new affiliate sites, which should mean lots of painstaking research to sort out which ones will work - only, I’m not going to bother. I’m just going to grab things that look good, that have plenty of affiliate programs to choose from, that interest me.

I know it’s philosophy and not logic, but if this can’t be easy and simple and fun, then I might as well just focus on working harder in my offline job, and keep trudging along there.
