Getting stuff done
by Sapphire (June 6, 2007)
Today’s big project? Putting invitations to subscribe to RSS or email updates at the bottom of my posts on all my sites. I gotta tell you: that really, really works (20 new subscribers in 3 days).
Yesterday, I got a frightening amount of stuff done. I cloaked all the affiliate links I could easily cloak (those product links from CJ don’t really lend themselves to that). I no-followed a bunch of advertising links on several sites because I want to see just exactly what difference it makes. No worries, your comment links remain followable here because I bother to delete and screen spam comments both manually and with the fabulous plugin Spam Karma 2, and those of you who contribute comments are welcome to some link love from my sites. As I’ve said before, my sites mostly lost a bit of PR this last time around (which may or may not be due to selling text links) but the Google traffic continues the same steady rise it’s always had, so what do I care about some PR number?
That said, I still have this perverse urge to game Google, then point at them and laugh. Hence my playing around with no-follow and stuff when I’ve stated more than once that I think it all deserves a good pelting with rotten tomatoes. I am that tomato! *shakes fist at sky*
I’ll let you know if the link cloaking seems to be helping. Already, though, I noticed on my main aff site, the main "shopping" pages have risen to the top page when I do a "site:mysite.com" search at Google. I don’t know if that means anything in terms of how they’ll perform in keyword searches. I did get more searches via Google yesterday than usual, so let’s be super optimistic and conclude that I’ve solved all my problems and soon I will be Top Supreme Queen of Affiliate Marketing.
Um… it’s possible I’ve had too much caffeine. Anyway.
I also installed WP Text Ads on a couple more sites. Haven’t sold one yet, but I’d like to take this link selling thing over for myself and cut out the commissions. I would also like to see if there’s a way to do it with no-follow (and wrote the programmer asking this), because I’m very curious to test what a no-follow link is worth compared to a follow link.
I also put some more Azoogle ads up, and I’ll be adding more to some of my other sites today.
