FluidHosting, Resellerzoom hosting, more theming

After two fabulous months with Fluid Hosting, whom I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone who wants zero downtime, I dumped them.  Why?  Well, I took a good hard look at my sites and realized they’re just not there yet.  They don’t need a host of that quality yet.  So I went with ResellerZoom, who’s a good bit cheaper and certainly less perfect.  But I have it on good authority from friends who’ve been with them for years that I won’t see much downtime and they’re good in every other way, too.  (And their packages leave a lot of direction for growth, assuming my sites ever grow in traffic.)

See, I’ve always been a perfectionist.  I always want only the best.  Finally, I’m starting to learn that if my sites are down for an hour, that doesn’t mean everyone’s going to stop coming forever.  Hell, they were down two days with Site5, and I don’t think I lost any visitors.  This was as much a personal growth move as it was a sensible business move.

I got busy on Project B-2 Bomber this weekend: I’m adding a couple of sister blogs on subdomains to it.  A lot of my authors have more to say on other topics, and this will give them a place to say it.  I re-themed the whole mess - decided to go back to 3-column layouts because, dammit, I’m going to sell BlogAds on those sites sooner or later and they need serious sidebar real estate.  One tip I learned in the whole process: you can have left sidebars that don’t load before the content.  I’ve been avoiding them for years because when they do load ahead of the content, a hangup in the sidebar prevents the main content from loading.  But look at the source code of the themes you’re considering: most load the left sidebar first, but not all.  The ones that put the content first are ideal.
