FireFox IS sucking

by Sapphire (March 10, 2007)

I asked the question a couple of weeks ago, and now I’m able to confirm that the latest update to FireFox blows.  Oh, it’s not crashing or anything like that.  It’s just caching sites when they go down, and then serving up the cached (down) version until you empty the cache or (in some cases) restart the browser.  Sometimes refreshing the page will work, but not always.   For anyone who thinks this might be a firewall issue, I’ve been seeing it happen on two different computers using two different types of firewalls and two different ISP’s.

It’s nice that you and I can figure out how to work around this and be sure our sites really are back online after all.  It’s really quite a pity that probably 90% of our visitors don’t know that and will just assume, “Wow, that site’s still down after 9 hours!  Guess I’ll take it out of my feedreader and move on.”

I don’t see any chatter about this on the Mozilla forums, but I did find a thread where someone mentioned sites being down in FF but not in other browsers, so I posted my little theory there (I’m Sapphy).
