Double check day
by Sapphire (June 2, 2006)
Yesterday I came home and grabbed the mail. In it was my AdBrite check for the month, which was a bit higher than I expected. (Net-whatever earnings always through off my calculations.) So I sat down and made out a deposit slip, because I had some other checks I also needed to deposit.
Then I opened the rest of my mail. To my shock, I found a Google AdSense check. My first. And possibly last, since I’m making AdBrite more prominent on my sites, as it has made me more money in less time than AdSense did. So I had to make a new deposit slip. Gee, what a pain.
But the feeling of getting TWO checks on the same day for my online work was amazing. It makes me feel like I’m in the game. I’m getting a check every month from AdSense - not for a lot of money, but it pays all my hosting fees. My next goal is to get a payment from CrispAds every month - which shouldn’t be that hard, since payout if $5 and it’s finally starting to perform on the ‘B-2 Bomber’.
I’m operating firmly in the black this year, after finishing last year some $300+ in the red. That’s also a psychological boost, and the ad networks are a big part of that. While they’re not bringing in much (yet?), they’re starting to pay for all my maintenance fees, which means anything else I make becomes sheer profit. And as my traffic to the sites grows, who knows how well the ads will do? Also, as I mentioned a while back, I’ve put up a page on this site soliciting direct advertising on this site, where you would get the benefit of my PR5, and I would get your money without any third-party commissions getting deducted.

I finally took a look at your advertising page - very cool. But I was wondering if you might benefit a bit more from that if it was a bit more obvious on your sidebar?
Just my 2 cents

Hey, nice blog. I came here via Building My Empire. After reading your post, I thought it would be a good idea to let you know that having another source of contextual advertising is against YPN’s TOA. Just a heads up from another YPN Publisher.
I’ll be bookmarking your blog!

Well, now, there’s a very good suggestion, Empress. I’ve taken your advice.

Okay, let’s see. Their terms say:
“For any webpage or RSS feed that includes the Ad Code, you agree not to display or link to any other advertising (including but not limited to any listing) that is mapped to or responds to the content of the Ad Page.”
Which is roughly what Google’s terms say for AdSense. I wrote to Google a while back, and they said AdBrite and its ilk were acceptable on AdSense pages, because they’re not truly context-sensitive. It’s category based, which they don’t classify as a competitive product.
The Yahoo term sounds the same to me, but I’ll email them for confirmation. If it doesn’t work for them, I’ll have to dump Yahoo, because their payout is $100, and the other guys are already working for me.

I\’ll try to find a link to where I thought I read that - you might be right, and it\’s always good to check with YPN about things, as they have banned for int\’l traffic, placing ads next to images, etc. Just looking out for a fellow publisher!

And I appreciate it. I’ll post whatever they tell me about it, when I get a response.

Check out #5:
Exclusivity. For any webpage or RSS feed that includes the Ad Code, you agree not to display or link to any other advertising (including but not limited to any listing) that is mapped to or responds to the content of the Ad Page.

LOL, if you look above, that’s exactly the bit I quoted to you in my first comment. As I said before, Google’s terms say the same thing, but I confirmed with Google that AdBrite and CrispAds are acceptable because they’re not context-sensitive.
I have yet to hear back from Yahoo.
