Domain age?

by Sapphire (June 11, 2007)

Is anybody else seeing some old domains suddenly getting traffic boosts, as BJ suggests here? Because I sure am. Since the latest Google update, I’ve seen:

  • A jump in traffic to some old thin affiliate sites I haven’t really touched (yes, now that I’m checking, the traffic increase started before I cloaked links last week)
  • Pages of dupe content coming out of the supplemental index for no reason I can figure out
  • A boost in traffic to those sites as well

The domains in question are all at least a few months older than this site and the B-2 Bomber. One of them is 6 years old, and despite a wave of spam attacks two months ago that caused me to have to move it to a more secure host, its traffic is surprisingly good.

I don’t see anything else these sites have in common but age. If domain age matters on a site that’s been steadily gaining traffic since inception, then this site and B-2 Bomber should be up for the next boost.

It’s really been quite exciting - now when I check my stats, I have so much more going on!

Some of the sites that are starting to really move don’t have all that much on them. I think I’m going to play around with revamping some of them, giving them new but related niches - something! anything! to get some juice out of the traffic ;)

I’ve been seeing more clicks on sites that have been around for a while, but as of late not a lot of traffic - but now it’s picking up. It’s making me re-think the whole - “I’m letting go my domains” thought - maybe I should hang on to them because they’ve been around for a while…

    Nah.

But it is nice to see that some sites that I’ve been keeping around are starting to see more traffic :) Like BJ I’m thinking I might need to do a re-vamp of a couple of them, since the info is rather old - more stuff to add to my to-do list. WooHoo.
