Disney Referrer Spam coming from third party

by Sapphire (July 28, 2006)

Spam Huntress was kind enough to track down the third-party who’s putting Disney in the referrer logs of a number of blogs, including one of mine. Thank SpectorBrain for the tip.

I’ve started banning the IP addresses of some of the spammers I get on this site. I realize this could deny a few honest users, but when you get dozens of spams from one IP in a few minutes, it’s kind of hard to believe anyone else using that IP could be getting anything done, anyway. Of course, they just keep changing IP’s, but it slows them down. My main point is to stop them from wasting my bandwidth. I’ve got spam protection here that puts them into moderation (or deletes them before I even see them), but I want to make their lives even more obnoxious.
