CrispAds v. AdBrite (and AdSense and Pheedo)
by Sapphire (June 16, 2005)
I’ve been playing with CrispAds and AdBrite as PPC networks for two of my blogs. I’ve done my best to give them all equal opportunities to score, and here’s where everything sits:
CrispAds and AdBrite seem to yield similar click-through rates, but CrispAds pays higher, with 25 cents per click. AdBrite’s clicks vary - so far I’ve had clicks worth 8 cents and 16 cents. If they go any higher than that, I’m not aware of it. So for straight up PPC, CrispAds is winning me over.
In fact, I have two other blogs I haven’t mentioned here yet (just started) which are running AdSense, and it’s not performing nearly as well as CrispAds. Of course, those two blogs have an entirely different audience than these, which could account for the difference. But I did run AdSense on the “B-2 Bomber” for a while, and it never did any good. It couldn’t understand what the site was for, so it was giving me targeted results that were just wrong enough to turn people off - imagine a right-wing political site getting ads for leftist books, and you have an idea what I mean (no, my site’s not political, that’s just an example).
But I’m keeping AdBrite on both sites for a very good reason: they’re not just PPC, they also sell ad space. And people are checking out the advertising rates on both my sites - I keep getting clicks from AdBrite’s ad page. So that’s an option.
Another ad network I really haven’t given a fair chance to yet - simply because you can only test so many of these at once - is Pheedo. Like AdBrite, they do PPC and sell ad space, and even though I don’t have them on either of my sites, I’m getting sniffs from their ad page as well. It’ll be interesting to see which of those two takes off, and how well they work. At the moment, my traffic’s still too low to attract paid ads, but we’ll see.
The two blogs that are running AdSense… I may take it down on at least one of them and replace it with Pheedo, or possibly CrispAds… see how that goes.

With Pheedo you can sell ads in your feeds and on blogs, and you can set the rates. Choose how much you want to sell advertising for and we’l try and find a buyer. We can also provide CPC ads from our network of advertisers at varying rates per click. We put the control over your advertising in your hands.
If I can do anything to help you get started, please let me know.

Hi, Adam, nice to hear from you!
I’ve just added Pheedo ads to two of my lower-traffic blogs, and they’ve been running not quite two days. But I think I’ve barely scratched the surface of what Pheedo offers - for example, I need to really figure out what to do with the feed, and how to work with BlogSnob.
I really have to say that I’m liking the ads I’m getting on CPC. I think I’ll try them out on my other blog that couldn’t even get relevant ads from AdSense.

CrispAds wins for me. I like it’s style, it’s so unintrusive that it could pass as part of your blog content, especially you have white page background. Now I’ll see how much I’ll earn from this. And if my readers mandate that I put ads on my site at all.
