Closing windows to open doors

I’ve gotten rid of CPM (BlogHer) on one of my sites. I was pleased with how BlogHer was performing, at least compared to other CPM networks, but that site just didn’t have the pageviews to justify having a large ad load on every page. It was bringing in about $10/month, and I don’t have another income source to replace that $10/month.

In the past, I found it hard to let go of stuff that was working at all, but this weekend I looked at that ad and thought, “There ought to be something I can put in that space that’ll bring in more than $10/month, and CPM on a few thousand pageviews a month is just not it.” Why the shift? Wait for it – it surprised me more than anyone.

Because I really believe I am going to make a full-time living at this stuff. Believing that enables me to take risks like dumping a $10/month sure thing to free up some space for trying new things. That fear of taking risks has held me back in the past, but not anymore. Now it’s just ignorance holding me back! :D No, wait – not “ignorance!” Let’s call it extreme open-mindedness, which can be your very best asset, right?

It’s all so Zen! Ommmm!
