BlogHer Ads rocks!

by Sapphire (August 23, 2007)

I just started running BlogHer CPM ads on Project B-2 Bomber, and I think this is the revenue source that site has been looking for since day one. As you may recall, that site’s in a tight niche that’s not overwhelmingly attractive to every advertiser, but it gets 15k visitors per month and is growing all the time.

BlogHer is able to serve good, relevant ads for that niche. They’re also good-looking ads: professional and classy. And what’s really exciting is, from 9am to midnight yesterday, the site made just under $3. I realize some of you with AdSense probably make more than that, but this is a site that wasn’t designed for an AdSense niche. $3/day is better than anything else has done on that site, including text link ads. And more traffic = more revenue, whether or not my visitors buy anything or click anything. That’s the one thing B-2 has never had trouble doing: attracting new visitors every month.

For anyone concerned that growing use of feedreaders makes CPM less attractive as a revenue source, at this very premature stage I’m going to go ahead and say I disagree. Our subscriptions go up every day, but we also get new people commenting almost daily. I believe feedreaders only enlarge your audience, and sooner or later those people will visit the site to look for other links, to comment (hey, that’s something you can inspire in your writing, right?), etc.

I am so happy for you! Isn’t it great to see things that work :) I see blogher ads on a few sites I frequent - always caught my eye. If it continues to work you’ll have to let me know! How hard was it to get into the blogher program?

Not at all. I’m not sure if it would be different on a site that’s under 10k visitors/month, but it was easy. Just took a few days for them to give me the code.

I’ll definitely post again to say how it’s doing down the road.

Thanks for the update. I’ve noticed them. It’s tough to get ads in certain niches or find buyers for them. I struggle with that.

I think you are right about feedreaders. I find that I am subscribing more and more but I still go and visit many of the blogs–just because I like the neighborhood. But then I’ve always enjoyed visiting face to face rather than chatting on the phone and feeds are kinda like the phone!
