BlogHer Ads and paid/sponsored posts
by Sapphire (September 3, 2007)
The BlogHer ad system is working as well as I expected in my original post, so I applied for this site and one other. The other site, they accepted once they’d reviewed it a bit. This one, however, had an issue: paid posts. BlogHer ads has a very specific policy which disallows paid reviews and sponsored posts:
Paid reviews for items of any dollar value, or reviews of freebies with a $40 (U.S.) or higher value, as well as Pay Per Post entries, are not compatible with BlogHerAds.
Instead of simply rejecting this site, BlogHer’s staff took the time to write to me and ask if I’d be willing to give up sponsored posts. They even suggested using another non-BlogHer site to run sponsored ads on, which is a great suggestion. Only the truth is I’m not making enough on sponsored posts to justify what I feel they take away from my authentic voice as a blogger.
What I mean by that is: I believe you read my posts to see what I think or have discovered. That’s what I read your blog for. And when I see a paid post from you, I don’t resent it or feel cheated - but I do skip that post because… well, it’s not the version of your voice that made me put you on my feedreader.
If the money had been better (especially in proportion to the time I spent on each paid post, only to have some of them get rejected by the sponsors), I could probably work out a justification for writing them.
Just being honest there. Also, those paid posts never rank in the SERPs. So what good is it doing me, really? Not enough to balance the meh factor it adds to a blog. The “Oh, never mind” feeling of reading along only to realize this is one of those posts. And the fact that you tend to see 50 blogs write about the same site on the same day… oh, yeah. That’s spontaneous.

LOL… you hit that one dead on. I’ve done a few sponsored posts, because honestly it’s a way to make money on sites that I have a hard time monetizing. Do I really want to do it? No not really. But it’s an income.
I’m so happy that you’ve found something that will work for your sites… I’m still looking for something that will jive with mine. Maybe I’ll have to go check out blogher ads

I definitely have nothing against people writing sponsored posts. It just didn’t prove worth what it pays, for me.
I’m very excited about BlogHer ads. As with everything, only time will tell for sure if it’s the solution for my sites.

Hi as you told in your blog, the sponsored ones are mainly meant for money making. its obviously true there is no doubt in that. even though we are paying for those ads its not sure that it will be placed in SERPs of search engines. so its better to go for useful links through blogs, which are free to increase website traffic.
