Bad code in Wordpress posts

Note to self: when the site starts displaying wrong in browsers, don’t just check themes and plugins. Check the latest posts for weird code left by Word or other word processors, or whatever software may have handled the post before it went into the Wordpress database.
Word & Pals can insert the strangest code into posts, and while that doesn’t always affect site display, it can cause sidebars to disappear or blocks of content to overlap.
