Awesome screen capture software

I’m horrible with screen captures. I hate doing them because I find the steps complicated. I mean, doing them isn’t too difficult, but then you have to save them locally, and then you have to FTP them to a server and all that. I just find it a pain in the ass.

I found a screen capture program today that is actually so simple, I did a capture and FTP’d it to my server in less than one minute, straight out of the box: Snagit 8 Screen Capture Software. First, it guides you through every step of making the capture, and there are several types of captures you can do: select a region, do a whole window, do a scrolling window, or do a scrolling window complete with intact links.

Then it generates an image preview. You pick an appropriate image type for the type of grab you’ve made - I chose PDF since I did a capture with intact links - and SnagIt can FTP it straight to your server without you having to save it on your local computer. Imagine having no more unnecessary images cluttering your hard drive - just toss them online where they belong.

It also has some image editing features a la Photoshop. You can circle and item for emphasis, draw an arrow to it, or get all artistic with the image you’ve saved and then upload that. Of course, a tool this cool isn’t free, but it’s under $40 and you do get a 30-day free trial. I think I may actually have to get this one.
