AdWords: Try, try again

by Sapphire (May 12, 2005)

I ran my first AdWords campaign on an affiliate marketing site in March and April, with very mixed results. Mostly, bad results, really. And it brought up more questions than answers.Â

But I did some reading and came up with a theory. I eliminated all my general keywords and left in only the very, very specific ones. Doing it this way, the clicks may be few and far between, but they should be quality clicks. And my CTR should be quite decent. But what if it doesn’t help? How will I know if it’s the keywords, or the ad, or the market? I think I found the solution.

I took another affiliate site of mine and created an AdWords campaign for it. This site gets a rather high CTR at CommissionJunction. The other site doesn’t. So I figured, if the good site flops in AdWords right along with the bad site, it’ll indicate I’m doing something wrong in my AdWords campaign.

I just started this puppy maybe two hours ago, and already I have a click-through on the new site - the one that performs well. My CTR is 2.2% right now, which is quite decent. I’ve only had 44 impressions. I’ll let you know how it goes.
