Adbrite’s new interface & options

by Sapphire (July 10, 2006)

AdBrite has introduced a new option for the type of ads you want to run on your site: “Slightly edgier ads (edgy but still no adult, no gambling, no viagra type ads)”. The other option is “Only clean, family-friendly ads”.

I tried out the edgy option, and got ads for breast augmentation, and with headlines like “hot chicks dig ringtones”. Okay, depending on your personal values (I for one don’t like the idea of hawking breast augmentation, but maybe that’s just me), not so bad. But on another site, I got ads for poker. Hello! Maybe it’s not exactly a gambling site, or maybe they’re still working out the kinks in the system. Either way, not what I’m looking for on my sites, which are very all-purpose and PG-13. But it could be a great option for sites where this sort of ad either fits or doesn’t not fit. I assume it makes more advertisers available to you, and they might pay higher CPC since they’re “edgy”.

AdBrite’s also tweaked their user control panel just a little. There are more options for describing the gender and age of your visitors, and a new box where you can “brag” about any awards or distinctions your site has received. There are some other little changes that make it easier to customize your site listing. All in all, a good move, I think.
