It’s been talked about for a while, but this morning on my local business news they made it sound like Microsoft buying Yahoo is a sure thing - and in response, Yahoo’s stocks have shot up 18%.
I realize this is a simplistic view, but I hope it happens because this could possibly give Google some [...]

Don’t let Google push you around, link buyers and sellers
April 17, 2007
At least once a year, Google announces that what used to be fine is now evil, and they’ll use their magic powers to determine if you’re doing something or not, and penalize you. This time, it’s paid links.
I can’t find it now, but I know just a few weeks ago they said paid links would [...]
AdSense changes look… very slightly
April 6, 2007
Thanks to AdSense being included on at least every site on the internet, including lots and lots of crap spam sites and say the same stuff as each other and frequently show up as results 1, 2 and 3 in the SERPs, human beings have evolved a new brain filter that causes them to ignore [...]
Nifty free SEO tools!
April 5, 2007
LinkWorth is a site that sells text link ads, much like - guess? - Text Link Ads. Very good! You had your Wheaties today!
Anyhow, I haven’t tried their service or anything, but they do have some really cool little tools for SEO. Link popularity, keyword analyzers… there are several toys to play with [...]
Does Digg play fair?
April 4, 2007
Digg has always claimed they don’t censor stories. Now SEORefugee offers some compelling evidence that maybe indeed they do:
At first I figured this was just a momentary glitch. However, it remained in this Anna Nicole Smith-esque (dead but not quite buried) state for over an hour. Also of note, is the fact that a [...]
Exact domain name matches losing steam with Google
April 3, 2007
Aaron Wall of SEOBook reports that exact domain name matches are going to lose ranking power in Google. Right now, a domain called “reallygoodcattoysmadefromclay.com” will rank very high for the search term “really good cat toys made from clay”, but not for much longer.
I assume other factors will be taken into account, so that your [...]
Search engines don’t penalize paid links
March 18, 2007
There’s been a lot of talk around the web about the search engines not valuing or even penalizing for paid links from services like ReviewMe or PayPerPost. According to SEOMoz, that’s just not true.
Tim answered first and said that Yahoo! wouldn’t try to pick one post out of twenty or fifty on every blog that [...]
Dupe Content explained
March 17, 2007
Duplicate content is a plague for webmasters. Scrapers parrot our own content right back at us, and years ago they used to sometimes rank higher than we did! Webmasters have a ton of questions about this stuff. SEOMoz has done a good job laying it all out in this rather amusingly illustrated guide to dupe [...]
Ping Google blog search
March 13, 2007
Here’s a good tip from the Marketing Pilgrim: ping Google’s blog search service and get your site indexed faster. Does it work? MP thinks so - and so do some posters at WebmasterWorld (click over and follow the link).
iBrian was kind enough to spell this tip out for newbies and non-techies: in your blogging software, [...]
The Project Mai Tai Experiment
March 13, 2007
After months of speculation, I reported last week that yes, the reason my Project Mai Tai domain is banned from Google is that it used to be owned by someone else. That left me with two choices: wait - perhaps more than a year - and hope it gets indexed, or port the pages [...]
