Continuing the experiment: Google’s AdWords PPC v. MyGeek’s PPC. I’m giving them both a whirl at the same time, and here’s how they’re measuring up so far.
To be completely honest, I think I’m sucking at this on both engines, and that’s neither of their faults (obviously). I’m pretty sure the site I’m promoting has [...]

sMACkdown! MAC Address vs. Apple’s Mac: An AdWords Tale
March 25, 2005
Here’s a nice Friday tidbit - I’m not the only person who gets confused when people start talking about MAC and mean “MAC address” as opposed to “Mac Apple” or “Mac ‘n’ Cheese”. Okay, so I can usually drum out Mac ‘n’ Cheese by context.MAC Address vs. Apple’s Mac: An AdWords Tale
It’s also a [...]
The MyGeek PPC Experiment
March 23, 2005
As I posted a few days ago, I decided to try out another PPC besides AdWords, and picked MyGeek. They have a few things going for them - click-fraud protection chief among them. You can block suspicious IP’s, and you can choose exactly what engines carry your ads. You can start with as little as [...]
AdWords and Invalid Clicks… Hmm!
March 22, 2005
Here’s a positive note for the day. My server’s weblogs are showing more clicks from Google than my Google AdWords report. In short, Google isn’t charging me for every click AdWords generated. I took a closer look at the weblogs, and realized the number of missing clicks in the AdWords report responded with the number [...]
Finally! Avoiding PPC click-fraud
March 21, 2005
It appears the big SE’s still haven’t managed to get on the ball to prevent click-fraud, but someone else has: BlowSearch Offers Source Exclusion: When Will The Majors Do The Same?
What does this mean, exactly? I blogged about click fraud a while back, and asked why the big SE’s haven’t yet figured out how [...]
Trying out MyGeek’s PPC
March 21, 2005
Okay, so I just got done saying I was gonna go sign up at BlowSearch and try out their click-fraud protected PPC. When I got there, it said you could start with as little as $20. Turns out this is not true. They’ve upped it to $50 without changing the website. Lovely.
So I joined one [...]
Dynamic KeyWords
March 20, 2005
Here’s a little trick I just found and am testing out. Instead of trying to write an ideal headline on all of your AdWords Ads, just give ‘em what they searched for, using this syntax:
{KeyWord:Default Headline}
This causes the ad headline to read as their search term - as long as their exact search string is [...]
The AdWord AdVenture ConTinues
March 11, 2005
I’m running my first AdWords campaign, and it’s just confirming my undying dislike of Google. I don’t hate them with a passion, but like every really big name in computer-related tech, they’re overblown and only skirting by because the people who don’t know what an URL is so vastly outnumber those who do.
Yesterday I complained [...]
Google needs to give us real-time stats
March 10, 2005
So I’m running my first AdWords campaign, trying to get my feet wet and see how this works. And I’m thinking I must be missing something, because it says the stats can be up to three hours behind. Holy…! But it turns out it’s not just me.
See, the way AdWords works, you set a daily [...]
