Color Blend your Adsense Ads

Everyone knows the adsense blending basics: match the background of your ads to your site’s background, make it borderless, etc. There are however, more useful ways to blend your ads into your content.

Most people go with the idea that the traditional blue links (#0000FF) garner the most clicks. Although they work fairly well in general, it really depends … READ MORE

More on BidVertiser (from an advertiser’s perspective)

Date July 12, 2007

I got a friendly letter from Bidvertiser making some recommendations about why I haven’t gotten any clicks. They suggested I add more sites and raise the amount of my bids.

Some of the bids were over $1, so I needed to raise my daily budget, too - I picked $2.50, because I do not want to have my $20 credit run out before I can get a feel for this system and decide if it’s … READ MORE

To AdSense or not to AdSense

Date September 30, 2006

Every time I hear someone’s making great money on AdSense, I get bummed.

See, I don’t like AdSense.  It just turns me off because it has, inadvertently or otherwise, inspired a lot of horrific crap sites that drive me crazy when I’m looking up information.  The truth is, WikiPedia with all its flaws is a better information source than Google now, and that’s largely thanks to the AdSense explosion in alleged content sites.  It … READ MORE

Click Fraud Exposed

Date September 21, 2006

The click fraud scandals continue to grow with an article in BusinessWeek online. It begins with a case study about Martin Fleischman, an entrepreneur who believes he lost $100,000 in advertising revenue to false clicks during the past three years, due to organized clicking via “paid to read” scams. Here’s how it works:

“It’s not that much different from someone coming up and taking money out of your wallet,” says David Struck. … READ MORE

Death of Adsense Report

Date September 20, 2006

I downloaded and read for myself the Death of Adsense report by Scott Boulch that’s been getting talked about on a lot of blogs lately.  For me, a lot will depend on part 2 of the report, which should be available tomorrow.  But it’s one of those things that’s worth reading, if only so you know what everyone else is talking about.

I must say, I’ve never considered AdSense viable longterm.  There’s too much … READ MORE

Yahoo! Click Fraud Lawsuit

Date August 26, 2006

Yes, there’s a class action suit against Yahoo! for click fraud allegations. I’ve received a letter stating that I’m included in the suit, even though I don’t remember ever buying any PPC advertising through Yahoo’s search marketing system. Ever. Still, I don’t know how many class action suits I’ve been included in and not bothered opting out of - I’ve never gotten a cent, a thank you note, or anything … READ MORE

Why AdSense and Yahoo!Publisher don’t work for me

Date August 18, 2006

Google AdSense and Yahoo! Publisher are reporting fewer and fewer impressions on sites that I know are getting over 100 visitors per day. Even assuming AwStats is inflated, I should be getting more than 4 impressions, right?

I guess they’re geo-targeting the traffic, and not counting impressions made by people from regions outside the target area. Also, more and more browsers allow ad-blocking, and given the popularity of the Firefox plugins for blocking ads, … READ MORE

Final word on Yahoo

Date June 16, 2006

No, seriously.

After some confusion from Yahoo over exactly whether their exclusion policy forbids keeping their ads on the same page with non-contextual ad services like AdBrite, I finally got a third answer in email.

Placing non-contextual ads, such as AdBrite, on the same page with Yahoo! contextual ads does not violate our guidelines.

So I’ve put their ads back up on this site. I’ll be interested to see how they perform. … READ MORE

Clarification on Yahoo’s exclusivity clause

Date June 7, 2006

A few days ago, Dadscape pointed out to me that Yahoo Ads terms of service state:

For any webpage or RSS feed that includes the Ad Code, you agree not to display or link to any other advertising (including but not limited to any listing) that is mapped to or responds to the content of the Ad Page.

AdBrite, CrispAds and others like them are not “mapped to” the content: they don’t … READ MORE
