Finally! For someone who’s not an expert in php, it’s a bit of a nightmare looking for the content management server (CMS) that’s going to do what you need. Once you’ve played with all the ones in Fantastico and none of them are quite the ticket, where do you go?
opensourceCMS.com offers not just reviews and [...]

Template Generator
January 31, 2005
I was looking for CSS generators today, and I found something for those of us who understand code, but run in circles trying to figure out how we want a site to look in the first place. Need a template? Try Strange Banana’s template generator, and get a template no one else has ever or [...]
The thing about online generators
January 31, 2005
I like trying out online generators to make snippets of code for me, and I’ve pointed out a few here that I thought were pretty cool. But I rarely use the code they give me, because it tends to be wrong. Or sometimes it’s perfectly acceptable, but it could be a lot shorter if a [...]
Cool CSS tool
January 31, 2005
Here’s an intriguing tool for generating CSS buttons. I probably won’t use it because it’s configured to work with Internet Explorer only. I prefer things that are configured for other browsers, then include hacks to make them work in IE. That seems the cleanest way to do it, in my opinion.
Still, the majority of people [...]
The CSS Menu solution
January 30, 2005
I’ve been looking for a really nice, clean way to do nested lists - you know, those menus that pop out boxes of submenus as you hover - and every solution I’ve found involves yucky stuff. Chunks of horse-choking un-searchengine-friendly Javascript, php with security issues, etc.
Nick Rigby has the solution. How’d I miss this? [...]
The Time Has Come
January 30, 2005
Well, the time has come. I’ve got to learn XHTML, and I’ve got to learn CSS.
I’m reasonably competent with HTML. I make mistakes, but I can follow what the W3C validator’s telling me and fix them easily enough. But CSS? Well, I can take someone else’s stylesheet, or one generated by a program, and [...]
XHTML Tutorials
January 30, 2005
I’ve decided I have to learn XHTML, and that means reading a lot of sites, and that means keeping track of their URL’s so I can go visit them again from time to time. I could just bookmark them like a normal person, but no: I’ve decided to bring you along by sticking the links [...]

Online stylsheet generator
January 29, 2005
There are a lot of online stylesheet generators, and most focus on one thing or another. This one focuses on helping you find a good color scheme, and generate the CSS code to put in your pages. It’s great because it includes a ton of colors, not just the standard web-safe palette, and shows [...]
CSS Tutorials
January 28, 2005
Here’s a very cool CSS tutorial I’ve found. Gave me a lot of ideas about things to do on my sites, and instructions I could follow on actually doing them.
Here’s another one, this time a very basic CSS tutorial. What’s cool about it is, he explains a few things that may seem very simple to [...]
