New Affiliate marketing/SEO forum

Date November 1, 2006

I found a new affiliate marketing/SEO forum this morning that looks promising. There’s discussion about everything from how to design your sites to how people choose what affiliate programs they’ll be joining. It’s also got sections on Commission Junction, ShareASale and other affiliate marketing programs. While there are a lot of older sites with similar topics for discussion and a lot more posted information, there can be an advantage to being an … READ MORE

October Stats

Date November 1, 2006

My total earnings for October were $264.81 - a combination of ad sales, affiliate sales and PayPerPost.  Which means my average earnings over the last three months were about $245 per month.  In the three months before that, it was about $110.

I’ve got $77 in ad sales to start the month, which is a little bit weak.  But I’ve also got a plan to earn over $300 per month, not including affiliate sales.  It involves … READ MORE

Project Mai Tai - Adventures in Site Launching

Date October 3, 2006

I’ve started a new site, and decided to chronicle my attempts to launch it and get some revenue out of it.  Knowing me, this could be a long process.

I’ve nicknamed the site Project Mai Tai, but just to be clear, that name has nothing to do with anything.  Well, I might need a Mai Tai by the time this is over, but that’s another story.

The site’s ready to go.  I’ve … READ MORE

Online Gambling is now illegal in the US

Date October 2, 2006

I can’t say I’m surprised.  The US passed the law against online gambling and betting over the weekend.  And with it remaining legal in other parts of the world, how confusing is that going to be for law enforcement, not to mention affiliates and operators.

September Stats

Date October 1, 2006

The bad news is, I only made $90+ this month.  It was purely from sales of ad space, and maybe a few pennies of CPC on my unsold AdBrite spots on other sites.  No aff sales at all.

But it’s been a busy month offline as well as on.  Online, I’ve been building a new site and trying new things.  I wasn’t shocked this turned out to be a lean month: I wasn’t really giving … READ MORE

Cookie Tracking and Vulnerable Affiliate & Ad Networks

Date September 17, 2006

Here’s an interesting report on which affiliate and ad networks are most likely to have their cookies detected and purged by your visitor’s anti-spyware software. (Thanks to 5StarAffiliatePrograms for the tip.) It also contains some very informative links to studies such as this one by BurstMedia, which finds that 30 - 60% of users dislike and delete cookies. ShareASale and ShareResults don’t get their cookies … READ MORE

Big CJ commission stuck; more SEO philosophy

Date September 16, 2006

My big commission at CJ has locked, which means I should receive it later this month. This is pretty thrilling, of course, but I know I can’t rely on sales like this to make my goal of earning enough to make a living at this stuff. Or at least, I can’t rely on my current strategies, which are permanently a little behind the search engines every time.

I’ve been reading and thinking, and mostly … READ MORE

Maintenance

Date September 5, 2006

Today I hope to finish the last of my monthly maintenance tasks, so I can get on to creating some new pages.  I swear, those maintenance tasks are the first things I’m farming out to an employee, once I get to the point where hiring help is viable.  As much as I’ve pared down the time they take, in a month where my offline life is busy, too, it’s really hard to get everything done.

So, … READ MORE

August Stats

Date September 1, 2006

Assuming my big commish from CJ sticks, I earned a record-shattering $379.57 last month. That’s from a combination of affiliate sales and adspace. The only PPC in there is what slots I have open with AdBrite - and really, I’m selling more and more of my AdBrite slots every month.

For September, I’ve already earned just under $70 on ads sold for the month. That income will grow by at least … READ MORE
