3 sales, 1 merchant
by Sapphire (August 27, 2005)
I got another commission from my affiliate site that I thought would never take off. It’s only had 85 unique visitors this month, but it’s generated two sales this month and one last month, all with quite decent commissions. It’s worth noting that all the sales have come from one particular merchant (my site features several). This could mean a couple of things:
- That it’s a great merchant and I should be sure their links are displayed a bit more prominently than the others.
- That I’ve got one repeat buyer who keeps going back, using the cookie that got planted in his/her computer from the original visit. (Those cookies stay good for quite a while.)
There’s no way to tell, at least not that I know of. And this is hardly a good time to be messing around at CJ looking for the answers, since you still can’t get three pages to load in a row. In either case, the real trick is: how do I drive more of this same quality traffic to this site? If I can get three commissions for every hundred visitors - which is the rate I’m getting now - then 300 visitors should bring in nine commissions.
I’m really not sure why this site’s doing so well. The search engines are only being fairly kind to it. My other affiliate site - which gets tons of traffic from the search engines, has generated one commission so far. Of course, gee whiz, that might have something to do with the fact that it has dead links that need cleaning up and I can’t get into CJ’s network to take care of it. That’s been on my agenda every day for two weeks, and I can never get anywhere.
Ah, well. I’m looking into some new affiliate networks. So far I haven’t found anything that does as much of what I want as CJ, but I’ll definitely let you know if I find any good ones at all.
