My new method of site promotion

Date March 13, 2008

I have a new method of site promotion: write stuff, and wait for people to link to it.
Marketing theory says you can’t do that. I say when you’ve got a small base of readers already linking to you, you can. It might not be the quickest method, but:

Two months ago, I bought three ads for [...]

Survey your advertisers

Date March 12, 2008

One of the big disadvantages of third-party ad networks is most of them don’t let you talk directly to the people buying ad space on your sites. When you sell ads directly (or through a third party service that lets you talk to them), take advantage of your ability to ask your advertisers a few [...]

LinkWorth test update

Date March 12, 2008

I said back in February that I was testing whether you can sell nofollow text link ads via LinkWorth, now that they’re offering them. I also promised to update you in March.
As I reported near the end of February, I did indeed sell one nofollow link. So far, it’s the only one. But they did [...]

Somehow I screwed up feeds; make sure you’re subscribed to what you want

Date March 11, 2008

I have no idea how I did it, but somehow despite lots and lots of checking, I screwed up the feed links on this site and AMJ when I set up AMJ. You may not be subscribed to the blog you mean to be subscribed to.
Now they’re working. If you want this feed, make sure [...]

I swear I checked that

Date March 11, 2008

The feeds on this site and Affiliate Marketing Journal have been screwy ever since I created the new blog. I checked all my feed links over and over when I set up the new blog. Then when I noticed everyone had dumped Blue Mushrooms overnight and gone over to Affiliate Marketing Journal, I thought, “I [...]

As usual, both is the winner

Date March 11, 2008

I worked out my dilemma about whether to build content or work on monetizing and other stuff.
Content will be priority, but I’m being more selective about it. For example, ChillyCool will be getting a minimum of 4 posts per week instead of 12, because I just don’t get that domain. I can’t see the longterm [...]

Better than domain parking?

Date March 9, 2008

I was looking for a better option than SEDO for earning some money from my parked domains, and came to the following conclusions:

SEDO works because it forces people to exit the page, which they sometimes do by clicking an ad.
If that’s not working for your particular site, or you’re concerned about the domain building some [...]

Content, or building?

Date March 9, 2008

I believe the longterm solution to my making a full time living online is to produce tons of great content that people want to link to. I believe from there I can launch sites that will sell them stuff.
But as I mentioned last night, in the meantime my earnings are dropping, which makes me want [...]

Anybody else’s income swirling the drain?

Date March 8, 2008

My income is just dropping lately. It’s getting worse every month. Anyone else seeing this on their own sites?
I’m starting to wonder about the US economy and whether it’s impacting affiliate sales. I know if I was in danger of defaulting on a mortgage, I wouldn’t be buying much stuff online.

The crap fling

Date March 3, 2008

A lot of successful blogs don’t offer anything of real value. They’ll take a problem everyone’s trying to solve, say they have a solution, and:

Write a post that just rehashes all the solutions we’ve already tried that didn’t work.
Write a post that sounds like it has the solution, if only you could figure out what [...]
